Green Waste
What is 'Green Waste'?
Green waste is mainly derived from household gardens and landscapers.
Background to Green Waste Disposal
A few years ago green waste was sent to landfill sites, as this was the cheapest means of disposal. More recently, primarily because of environmental legislation and recycling targets set by the EU, UK and Welsh governments, local authorities are under an increasing pressure to recycle and reduce the amounts of public and commercial green waste sent to landfill sites.
How can Green Waste be Recycled?
As green waste is an organic material it naturally decomposes, this process takes considerable time, however with the intervention of processing in terms of shredding and screening the material, and composting techniques such as windrows and invessels the process can be accelerated significantly.
Green Waste Recycling Services that we offer to our customers
Our green waste services begin with the transportation from local authority civic amenity sites. Our commercial customers, mainly landscape gardeners and construction firms will transport the greens direct to one of sites.
How do we recycle green waste?
Green waste is brought into our reception site, it is then shredded to reduce it in size in order to aid the composting process. It is then placed in an open trapezoid windrow on a concrete base to undergo the lengthy natural composting process.
Once the green waste has thoroughly composted it is then put through a set of Powerscreen screens which grades and separates the compost and wood mulches into individual piles. Any plastic bin liner material is vacumed out and oversized pieces of are wood returned to the shredding location to go through the whole process once again.
What is the end product of the recycled green waste?
The end products are compost and mulches for use in gardens, parks and soil improvement. The screening process ensures a high quality compost and mulches. The only waste byproduct of this process is the a small amount of plastic bin liner material which we dispose of.
